Many different issues can arise in relation to child support. One such issue is child support modification. Sometimes, changes in circumstances will lead to a parent seeking to have the amount of a child support obligation changed. Examples of circumstance changes that parents will sometimes seek child support modifications in relation to include income changes and child custody changes.

Recently, a modification was made to the child support obligations of a celebrity. The celebrity in question is Charlie Sheen.

The modification regards the amount of child support Sheen pays his ex-wife Brooke Mueller in connection to their twin sons. Sheen had been paying Mueller $55,000 a month in child support.

Earlier this year, a change was made in the child custody situation regarding the couple’s two sons. The children had been in the custody of Mueller. However, in May, they were removed from her custody due to drug use by her. They currently are in the temporary custody another of Sheen’s ex-wives, Denise Richards.

Recently, Sheen and Mueller reached an agreement to modify the amount of Sheen’s child support payments in light of this child custody change. Under the terms of the agreement, Sheen’s payments will be lowered to $25,000 a month while the children are not living with Mueller. In the event that custody of the children is given back to Mueller, the amount of Sheen’s payments will change back to the original amount.

As this matter shows, child support modifications are sometimes made. The process of pursuing a child support modification can be a very complex one. Thus, if a person is considering seeking a child support modification, he or she may wish to consider speaking with a family law attorney with experience in child support matters.
