October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Given how many lives domestic violence affects every year, raising awareness about this terrible type of abuse is extremely important.

As this awareness month comes to an end, a national political figure is coming to Texas to commemorate it. The political figure in question is Vice President Joe Biden.

According to the Dallas Morning News article which reported on this story, Biden’s visit will be occurring on Wednesday in Austin. One of the places Biden will be going to during this visit is the National Domestic Violence Hotline’s headquarters. The hotline provides domestic violence victims access to confidential and free support.

Domestic violence is a horrible thing. When a person is subjected to domestic abuse by a spouse or a significant other, it can affect their life in substantial ways.

Thankfully, there are things that domestic violence victims can do to seek help, support and protection. There are organizations, like the National Domestic Violence Hotline, that provide support and services to domestic violence victims.

Also, there are certain legal protections, such as restraining orders, that a domestic abuse victim may be able to pursue. This is one of the reasons why a person who has been the victim of domestic violence may wish to think about talking to a family law attorney. A family law attorney can go over the various types of legal protections with a person, can help a person determine what types are appropriate for their circumstances and can help them to pursue such protections.
