Sadly, domestic abuse incidents sometimes occur here in Texas. There are many different forms domestic violence can take. One type of domestic violence that spouses or domestic partners are sometimes subjected to are stranglings.

Recently, in another state (Minnesota), an alleged domestic violence strangling incident occurred involving an NFL player. The NFL player in question is A.J. Jefferson, who played for the Minnesota Vikings. Authorities allege that, following an argument with his girlfriend, Jefferson went up to his girlfriend while she was in bed, accused her of ignoring text messages he had sent her and began to strangle her. The Fox Sports North article which reported this story did not have any details regarding the condition of Jefferson’s girlfriend.

Jefferson was arrested and, last Wednesday, was charged in relation to the incident. Specifically, a felony charge of domestic assault by strangulation has been brought against him. Following Jefferson’s arrest, the Vikings cut him from their team.

Domestic violence stranglings and other domestic violence attacks can cause their victims severe harm. The time following a domestic violence attack can be a very confusing and disorienting one for a domestic abuse victim. Some of the questions a domestic violence victim may have include:

  • What can be done to protect oneself from further attacks?
  • What actions should be taken going forward?
  • Where can one go to seek help/services in relation to a domestic violence attack?

Experienced domestic violence attorneys can help domestic abuse victims with these questions and the many others that can come up in connection to a domestic violence incident.
