Some news has recently arisen regarding the divorce of NBA star Tim Duncan. Duncan plays for the San Antonio Spurs and has won multiple NBA championships with them.
In March, Duncan’s wife of 12 years submitted a petition for a divorce. According to an article on the Huffington Post’s website, recently, a judge finalized this divorce.
What was somewhat unusual about this particular finalization was that it wasn’t done in a court hearing, but rather was done in a secret private hearing. According to the above-mentioned judge, Duncan and his now ex-wife sought a private hearing because of privacy concerns.
Not surprisingly given the private nature of the finalization hearing, the details regarding how the issues related to the former couple’s divorce were specifically resolved have not been publicized. Duncan and his ex-wife have two children, so one would guess that child custody was one of the major issues the divorce resolution involved. It also seems likely that property division was a significant issue in this divorce resolution, given that Duncan is a star athlete with a large income.
The issues of child custody and property division are complex and impactful ones and can arise in all different types of divorces, not just those of the rich and famous. This is one of the many reasons why, when a person is in divorce proceedings, having a strong and experienced family law attorney on one’s side can be very important. A family law attorney can help a person navigate the complicated issues (such as child custody and property division) that can come up in a divorce.
