Todd Shapiro Successfully Defends Wife of Gubernatorial Candidate After Problematic DWI Arrest

When Dallas police arrested Angela Graham-West and jailed her overnight on suspicion of DWI, Todd Shapiro rose strongly to her defense. We never back down from taking tough, high-profile cases.

Graham-West’s field sobriety test results were affected by a brain aneurysm, Shapiro contended, not by drinking or drug use. On September 2, the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office acknowledged she had no drugs or alcohol in her system.

Son of MLB Player Innocent of Texas Sexual Assault, Lawyer Declares: May 17, 2012

The 17-year-old son of a Major League outfielder was arrested Monday on allegations of sexual assault — allegations his attorney has categorically denied. The young man was freed on bond from a Collin County jail later the same day.

According to The Dallas Morning News, the prosecutor in the case contends the alleged assault occurred after a group of boys invited various girls to a party, drugged them and then had sex.

The 17-year-old’s attorney, Todd Shapiro, said in a statement, “We were stunned by these accusations, disappointed by the way it was handled, but completely confident that the facts will prove [the accused] is innocent. He, as well as his family, looks forward to the opportunity to clear his name at the appropriate time.”

The young man is a standout athlete at his high school and is currently being recruited by several college athletic programs. Moreover, “He’s a very good student,” said Shapiro in a statement reported by KENS5. “He’s got a lot going for him; he still does have a lot going for him, and he will have a lot going for him. It’s just, as you can imagine, if you’re a parent, very upsetting when your kid gets arrested.”

The young man’s father has reportedly taken a sabbatical from his MLB career for a “personal matter” — presumably to be with his son and family during this especially trying time.
