Recently, a celebrity divorce has reached its conclusion. The divorce in question is the divorce of musician Ben Harper and actress Laura Dern. Harper has multiple albums to his name and Dern has starred in many movies and television shows. Dern’s credits include “Jurassic Park” and the television show “Enlightened.”
Harper and Dern got married in 2005. They have two children.
In 2010, Harper filed a petition for a divorce. Harper and Dern made a reconciliation attempt in 2012, but this attempt was ultimately unsuccessful.
The former couple’s marriage has now officially come to an end. The two reached a divorce settlement (the terms of which are confidential) and a judge recently finalized their divorce.
This case illustrates a couple of points that are worth noting. The first is that divorces can go on for awhile. Divorces can involve many complex legal issues and the process of resolving such issues can sometimes take a fair amount of time.
The second is that divorcing couples sometimes reach settlements in their divorce. Such settlements are generally reached through negotiations. Divorce settlement negotiations can involve a wide variety of impactful issues, including division of property, spousal support, child custody and child support.
Thus, divorce negotiations can get very complicated and can be very high-stakes. Consequently, when a person is in divorce settlement negotiations, having an experienced family law attorney on one’s side can be incredibly important. An experienced family law attorney can help a divorcing individual navigate the complex environment of such negotiations.
