Sometimes, in a divorce, one of the parties will make a request for spousal support. This can be seen in a divorce case that has recently arisen involving former professional football player Willie Gault.

Gault, now 53, played wide receiver in the NFL. He was a member of the Chicago Bears during their Super Bowl win in 1985.

About five years ago, Gault got married. Recently, Gault’s wife filed a petition to get a divorce. Irreconcilable differences are cited in this filing.

One of the things that Gault’s wife has asked for in her divorce petition is spousal support. It will be interesting to see if spousal support is ultimately given to Gault’s wife and, if it is, what amounts such payments will be set at.

There are a couple of different ways that a request for spousal support in a divorce can be resolved. Sometimes, parties to a divorce will reach a settlement agreement regarding the issue of spousal support. The types of spousal support terms settlements can contain can vary considerably.

Divorcing parties aren’t always able to reach such agreements. When divorcing parties fail to resolve a spousal support matter through a settlement, the matter often ends up going before a court. A lot of different factors can play a role in what decision a court ultimately opts to make in a spousal support case.

Experienced family law attorneys can help divorcing individuals with the many complexities that can arise in relation to negotiations regarding spousal support or court cases regarding such support.
