Anyone who finalized their divorce this month was not alone. According to a recent news article, March has become known as the month of divorce. Some attorneys in Texas say they notice a spike in divorces in the third month of the year, but why?
According to some, it’s all about the holidays.
The holidays are typically a time spent gathered with extended family. Because there are expectations that the holidays be fun and celebratory, many people fear that deciding to divorce before them will create problems and drama that they would rather avoid.
For this reason, some couples in Texas choose to wait until after the holidays to file for divorce. After finding lawyers to represent them and working through the details, this naturally leads to many divorces in March.
Others say Valentine’s Day may be the culprit. An unhappy couple may not want to go through another difficult Valentine’s Day together, so they choose to start seeking a divorce earlier.
Of course, holidays are not the reason for all March divorces. When a marriage no longer makes spouses happy, divorce just makes sense — and some people just happen to reach this realization in the spring.
