Dallas police officer investigated for abusing wife

On Behalf of The Shapiro Law Firm | Jun 6, 2013 | Domestic Violence

As this blog has previously noted, the city of Dallas has taken a stand against domestic violence through initiatives that public education about domestic violence and other awareness campaigns, as well as using billboards to catch abusers. However, while city-wide programs may reach out to the public at large, that does not mean that the city’s own employees cannot benefit from the educational message.

A Dallas police officer was recently placed on administrative leave while he is being investigated for domestic violence. The officer, who has been a member of Dallas Police for 10 years, is accused of beating his wife, resulting in injuries to her. He was not arrested, and the wife is not cooperating, according to the police department. The incident is being investigated by the Public Integrity Unit.

Domestic violence is considered by the U.S. Surgeon General to be a significant health concern in the United States. Women, and wives in particular, are commonly thought of as the primary victim in domestic violence cases. However, anyone can be a victim of domestic abuse, including children, siblings and romantic partners.

One of the first steps in stopping such abuse is to recognize that the abuse is actually happening. Awareness campaigns, such as those promoted by the mayor of Dallas, can help victims and their friends and family spot potential signs of abuse so that they can take action. Victims have several options available to them, including filing for a temporary restraining order or emergency protective order, or seeking assistance through shelters and helplines – all of which can be done with the help of a Dallas Family Violence Lawyer. The office of the mayor has not made a comment regarding this incident.
